Zserbó is originally a Hungarian cake with walnuts, apricot jam and a chocolate coating. This is what it looks like:
This blog article is about the Zserbó balls (alá Easy Cooking Budapest):
I prefer this variant, because it is way easier to prepare with the same delicious taste.
Ingredients, that I used in the United States:
- 9 oz (250 g) sweet biscuits
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 9 oz (250 g) chopped walnuts
- 5 oz (150 g) semi-sweet chocolate
- 7 oz (200 g) apricot jam
The Process:
- grind the walnuts and the biscuits
- add the walnuts, biscuits, sugar and jam together
- mix until you get a dough that you can work into 1 inch balls
- put the balls in the fridge for half an hour
- melt the chocolate with the spoonful of oil like this: put a pot with hot water over the stove to boil and put the chocolate in another pot or bowl over the boiling water (if you heat the chocolate directly over the heat, it burns easily)
- dip the balls in the chocolate
- put them in the freezer for half an hour so the chocolate hardens
Enjoy! 🙂
